Position Overview

Medical Physicists are responsible for all technical aspects of the radiation oncology program.  This position ensures a safe environment for staff and patients, and provides oversight towards the accurate delivery of radiation therapy as prescribed by the physician’s written directive.

Essential Job Functions

  • Ensures the Linear accelerators and Proton accelerator are functioning safely and maintain calibration
  • Responsible for patient-specific QA, physics checks of treatment plans and weekly chart reviews during radiation treatment courses
  • Provides technical and clinical support to the dosimetry and therapy teams as needed
  • Responsible for all radioactive materials – all materials are licensed correctly, received, utilized, documented and returned according to safe radiation practices
  • Works with the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) towards maintaining a safe and license compliant radiation facility, and helps the RSO keep legal records for the State of Florida
  • Consults, as requested by physician, in areas of patient treatment modality, accumulation of biologically effective dose from historical treatments, and technology implementation for special cases.
  • Performs research and development projects under the direction and/or guidance of the Chief Medical Physicist
  • Provides didactic and clinical training to staff and students

 

Requirements

Required

  • Active Florida License in Therapeutic Radiological Physicist
  • Basic Life Support
  • A minimum of a Master of Science in Medical Physics 
  • ABR certification, or equivalent, in Therapeutic Radiological Physics. Candidates with certification in-progress may be considered
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a radiation oncology facility

  • Exposure to Electronic Medical Records (EMR’s)
  • Design and fabrication of treatment aids and surface plaques 
  • Strong communication skills – both orally and in writing
  • Detailed Oriented
  • Organization and prioritization
  • Ability to multi task
  • Computer coding (Python, SQL etc.)

 

Hours

  • Monday-Friday; rotating shift assignments which may involve 6:00am start times to 12:00am end times
